Welcome to the Huntingdon Borough Archive

Huntingdon Borough Seal, 1628

2005 marks the eight hundredth anniversary of the granting by King John of Huntingdon's first Royal Charter.

To celebrate this event, Cambridgeshire Archives Service is re-cataloguing all of the historical records of the Borough from 1205 to 1835, and making information about the Borough available online.

This website contains:

  • a history of the Borough of Huntingdon from its beginnings until its abolition in 1974
  • information and translations of all the town's Royal Charters
  • high quality digital images of some of the charters, photographed by the FenPast Scanning Bureau
  • detailed catalogues of some of the original records held at the County Record Office in Huntingdon.

A full catalogue of all the Borough's documents is scheduled for completion in December 2005, and will be published on this site

Funding for the Project has come from Huntingdon Freemen's Charity, the Huntingdonshire Local History Society, and Cambridgeshire County Council.
